Those who stand with the victim will inevitable face the perpetrators unmasked fury - Judith Herman

Can anyone relate to this quote?

Thank you for the reminder of that book; Rabbi Blau had recommended it to me awhile back and I had misplaced the title and author.
Have you found it to be very helpful?

And, to answer your question: yes, I can relate very much so. I watched the perp and his crony-enabler take out their fury on Vicki Polin and Luke Ford, among others.

I think the book Trauma and Recovery (By Judith Herman),
should be manditory reading for all rabbinical students of every denomination.

How do we go about mandating this?

Not sure, but as soon as you figure out a way, make it mandated reading for all current rabbis as well.

As a reader of this blog, I'm mandating all rabbis and rabbinical students of all denominations to read the book Trauma and Recovery by Judith Herman. If you ever want survivors of sexual violence to believe in you, we need you to believe in us first.

Amen to that! If rabbis knew more about trauma--which sadly precious few do, though an awful many claim to know and don't--then the supporting of victims and the handling of perps would be far different. I vote for mandatory reading for ANYONE who is to be put in any kind of public position.

rabbis should read the shame borne in silence by rabbi twerski too. they should be familiar with all sorts of abuse. rabbis should not be chosen for their intellectual ability exclusively. rather, their emotional intelligence and midos should be observed and noted before they get smicha. high intelligence and good memories are not enough.
